Alkali salts as interface modifiers in hybrid perovskite solar cells
27.08.2019
According to a recent study in the Helmholtz innovation laboratory HySPRINT at Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin, a team of scientists has found how the performance of perovskite solar cells, which can be used in tandem solar cells, can be further increased. Previous studies have shown that the current-voltage hysteresis is due to ionic defects at metal oxide/perovskite interfaces. To solve the problem, HZB scientists modified the interface and added interface modifiers. "By depositing potassium nitrate and similar alkali salts on a tin oxide transport layer, before coating the perovskite absorber film on top, we enhance the operational device stability and yield power conversion efficiencies up to 19%," says Janardan Dagar, first author of the study. This improvement in operational stability is a major step towards the commercialization of perovskite solar cells.
